Abstract
This study examines how private land ownership in Hargeisa, Somaliland, reduces open spaces and public parks amid rapid urban growth. Data from 74 participants show that increased private land acquisition limits public areas, causing environmental harm and restricting social and ecological benefits. Weak urban planning and enforcement worsen the problem. Sustainability in Hargeisa requires balancing environmental health and fair land use, but without policy reforms, unchecked private ownership threatens the city's livability. The research calls for balanced urban planning to reconcile private and public interests.
